Happy Youngster (Miguel Cabrera #1 of season)

The Happy Youngster leads most categories after a great week #1.  Zack Hample is not far behind.  Many ballhawks have yet to begin their season, but that should change this week.

One issue needing addressed is 7 members of the ballhawk league who failed to report their stats to me.  I sent an email out on Sunday around 9 AM asking for their stats.  I gave them a 24 hour window.  Last night at 11 PM, I sent a reminder message.  What do we do with non-reporting participants?  I was thinking give them 3 strikes, and then remove them from the league?  The 3 strike rule would begin next week.

We can still accept new participants into the league for awhile since the season is still Young.

Erik,

Sorry, I was away for the holiday weekend. I sent my update to you this morning. My totals were 5 balls (2 hit, 3 device) for one game on 4/6 @ Minute Maid Park. Attendance was 43,827.

Donny, I noted your stats in my master standings list. I’m not going to go back and re-do the whole entry though. Your stats are in there though and we’ll just add onto them for next week.

Here’s some more late stats from Alex:

Total Balls: 27 balls

Hit: 3 balls

Thrown: 19 balls

Device: 5 balls

Total Attendance: 4/6: 48,607 | 4/8: 22,856 | 4/9: 28,534 | 4/10: 22,866

Games: 4

Game Balls: 0

And to make it easier :

Average Balls per a Game: 6.75 balls per a game

Average Attendence: 30,715.75

Total Attendence: 122,863

Sorry about that

Alex

Just some food for thought. I’m noticing some stadiums have sweet snagging layouts and others are more restrictive. Some stadiums open earlier than others. I’m thinking that maybe for next season each stadium should be graded on a 1-10 scale on how good the snagging is.
For example, you would take into account, opening times, layout, stadium accesability, whether the stadium allows baseball snagging devices, etc and come up the a score between 1-10.
So you ask who could grade each stadium with enough knowledge to make a fair grade?
It would have to be Zack Hample, he’s been to them all and snagged from them all. Just something to consider moving forward with this league. Please move Ballhawk John Wittout of my stats box Erik, when I’m snagging I don’t like anyone beside me :) …D

Erik,

Good to see a new Ballhawking Career get off to a good start. I think the Ballhawk League will be a lot of fun competition between all of us. For me it is actually interesting to see how everyone gets the balls. I am guessing that myself and Happy Youngster will be on the top of hit balls caught.

Not in the stats were 6 balls I got during the WBC. 5 caught and 1 thrown.

Keep up the great work and I look forward to talking to you during the season.

Don,
I see your point about some stadiums being more tricky. For example, in Cincinnati you get 90 minutes, where in Washington you get 150 minutes of time before the game. There could be some modification to the competition factor at some point. Maybe multiply the CF by .75 for easy stadiums, keep it at 1.0 for medium stadiums , and multiply by 1.25 for hard stadiums. Stadium difficulties could be ranked based off of opening times, seating arrangements, etc. That’s something we could maybe look at next year. The ultimate goal is to catch as many balls as possible.

John,
Don’t rule me out of the “hit” category just yet. Last year I had 104 balls that were hit.

Uggh, count Minute Maid Park in as one of the “90 minutes before game time” stadiums. That’s my least favorite thing about the park. On Saturdays they’re good to us and give us 2 full hours. On the plus side, the roof means that BP is never rained out!

Ugh, I’m already 38 balls behind. Is there going to be an overall ball total goal for the league? 1500? 2000? 2500? Just thinking a-loud.

Hi Erik…

Is it too late to join the Ballhawk League? I’d like too! If it’s too late I understand. I should have gotten word to you sooner. If it is ok to join, here are my stats for the first week:

5 games
11 balls

2 thrown during BP
6 caught on fly during BP
1 thrown in between innings (warm up ball)
2 game home runs (1 thrown, 1 caught)
Matt Kemp thrown to me by Jody Gerut and Henry Blanco (caught).

There are no Padres home games this week so I probably won’t have any more to report till the following week. Let me know about joining.

Sorry ….forgot the attendance figures. The 5 games attendance were….

45496
20035
31700
20507
35305

Donny,
Gotta hate those 90 minute stadiums.

Aaron,
We can see how many total balls members of the ballhawk league can get. I think we should have an easy time breaking 2000.

Padre,
We can let you in. The more the merrier.
