Ballhawk League Week 6

Members of the ballhawk league were at it again in Week 6.  Three of our members snagged home runs during Major League Baseball Games, the most publicized being the Happy Youngster’s catch of Chris Coghlan’s first major league home run ball.

We also have a new ballhawk that has joined the league, Nick Pelescak.  He is a ballhawk from PNC Park, and is quite skilled, as his stats place him in the top 5.

Hi Matt….

Looks like everyone had a pretty good week! If my math is right the 20 people on the spreadsheet have snagged 968 balls so far this year. Wow!! That’s alot. There’s alot more time left in the season too. It will be interesting to see how many total balls get snagged by the end of the season. Take it easy..

Is it too late to join the league? I can’t resist anymore! Let me know if I can still join and I’ll send you my stats.

Oh no! Ballhawk A is really doing a number on the league. Since he’s promised to ruin it all for us we’ve had two people show up and want to join. We’re all in big, big trouble.

Erik, don’t feel bad for selling the balls on eBay.

Why would you sell? Selling memorabilia is the reason it is becoming increasingly harder and harder to have items authenticated. I go to games to have fun, not to increase my net worth. With all due respect, unless I am missing a part of the story, I find that behavior extremely objectionable.

For those independantly wealthy people that can afford to go to every game I say don’t ever sell anything. For the rest of us that can’t always afford to pay an assinine ARM & a LEG to get a ticket in the nosebleeds just to see BP I say ….. sell what you want!! Why is it so wrong for someone to sell a ball, a bat or an autograph. You got, it’s yours, do with it as you like!

It’s getting ridiculous. I went to the game yesterday and asked for two cheap tickets, usually $7 each. The guy said that the cheapest tickets they had were $12 because the $7 tickets were being sold as a promo for $1 with a PowerAde label. “What? I want to buy a $7 ticket but I can’t because they’re being held to sell them for $1. Instead I have to buy the $12? Am I hearing you right?” Yep.

So $24 later I’m sitting in the $50 field boxes pondering why I had to pay so much for a seat that I never saw. I guess we don’t have it that bad compared to NYC, but still. The real kicker is that the $7 outfield deck sections were empty. They probably made more money forcing people to buy the $12 tickets than they lost on the promo ticket price.
