Ballhawk League : Week 9

Rain wreaked havoc on many of the ballhawks’ schedules during the week in week 9.  As a result, many of our totals are down a bit.  Members of the league collectively managed to snag 104 balls in week 9.  For the second consecutive week, no ballhawk broke the 20 ball barrier.

Here are the leaders for week 9:

Congratulations to Donny Haltom for winning top ballhawk for the first time.

As far as the 2009 season,  there is a bit of a race developing for the top spot.  The Happy Youngster and Erik Jabs have very slowly closed the gap between themselves and Zack Hample.  They are still behind by a considerable margin, but there could be a legitimate race forming.

There is also some jockying for position underneath the top 3.  Only 31 balls seperate #4 Alex from #10 Shawn.  Alex, Nick, Mike, District Boy, Greg, Donny, and Shawn consistently shuffle in the standings on a week to week basis.

I would give credit to the roof at Minute Maid Park, but we’ve had some unseasonably cooler weather lately and actually had the lid open for a couple games last week. That’s unusual for June in Houston. I did get to taste a rare rain delay in week 8 though when I made a trip up to Arlington for a pair of Rangers games. The game didn’t start until 9:45 and didn’t end until almost 1am. I don’t see how you guys put up with that on a regular basis.

Donny in Houston

Donny, you asked this question last week, and im still curious to know the answer from Eric

Not that it makes a difference one way or another, but why do toss up homeruns count as game balls for the ballhawk league, but third out balls, umpire balls and toss up fouls do not? I can see counting them in your personal total, but not for the league.

I love how you all combined have got 1363 baseballs from the teams this year. That is a whole lot of baseballs!

HOWIE

Donny and Puck,

I see your reasoning. Home Run balls that don’t fall into the “hit” category shouldn’t count as game balls for the league. By all means count them as game balls in your personal stats.

I think Happy and John Witt are the only two affected by this rule change that I know of.

For consistency sake, we shouldn’t count any thrown or device ball as a true game ball.
