A roadtrip to/from PNC Park

One of the more interesting things to do as a ballhawk or baseball fan in general is travel to a new stadium for the first time.  There’s nothing quite like taking in a brand new stadium, especially from a ballhawking perspective.

I’m planning to visit at least two new stadiums for the first time in 2010.  I figured since I have some time now in my evenings, that I would see how far it is to the various 29 other major league stadiums in terms of miles as well as drive time.

Without further delay, here’s the list (distances and drive times are from Google Maps):
distances jpg.jpgThe next five closest stadiums that I’ve never visited:
Comerica Park (Detroit) 4 hours 27 minutes
Rogers Center (Toronto) 5 hours 0 minutes
Yankee Stadium (New York) 6 hours 0 minutes
Citi Field (New York) 6 hours 9 minutes
US Cellular Field (Chicago) 7 hours 4 minutes

Of those five, Toronto shows up on my tentative schedule of possible games the most amount of times.

Anyone else planning any 2010 road trips?

Erik- i just planned my trip to baltimore a few days ago. Other than that, im going to arizona in august, and the rest staying in ny. but im probably going to one or two other games in baltimore not during my main trip there. I know you had terrible luck there last year, i only got 5 in the game I went, but It is so great for snagging. Joe

Very cool, Erik. But how do they have you driving that San Diego is closer to Pittsburgh than Oakland!? 2008 kicked of a grand tradition, The Great Annual Cook Father-Son-Grandson Baseball Roadtrip. In 2008, Tim and I hit 9 stadiums (4 on the “roadtip”). In 2009, we made it to 13 (4 on the “roadtrip”). Our tentative 2010 roadtrip has us swinging by all 5 California ballparks in June. In addition, we’ll be hitting Safeco (a must!), Camden Yards (ditto), Citz Bank, Nats Park, Citi, Yankee and, last but not least, PNC. Oh, yeah, Great Am. and/or Progressive are also options for Tim’s anniversary game in Sept. I really want to get to Comerica, the only “close” stadium I we haven’t visited yet, but it is highly doubtful for 2010. Is the off-season over yet!?

Hi, Erik. I’m making a trek out to New York in April. I may only have time for one of the two NY parks and at this point I’m leaning toward Citi Field. Also, I may head up the cost to Seattle this summer if I have the time. Or maybe head to Arizona or Colorado. I may have to make an Excel spreadsheet of my own–that looks like fun!

Joe,
I may make a few games in Baltimore still, even though I’m cursed there. Arizona will be awesome. Chase Field looks like a great park to ballhawk in.

Todd,
Sounds like you have a great 2010 planned. Maybe I’ll run into you at PNC Park or Progressive Field this summer. I’d like to also get to a game in Comerica, but their gates open 90 minutes before first pitch, which is unappealing.

Matt,
I’m also planning a trip to Citi Field in April – it’ll be my first trip there. I think Citi would be a little easier than Yankee stadium, but we’ll see.

I’m coming to Pittsburgh in May, and I hope to see the Pirates while I’m there. PNC Park is the ballpark I want to visit most right now, It is supposed to be fabulous.

I’m definitely taking trips to Arizona, Tampa, Miami and possibly Washington and Seattle this year. It’s going to be a fun and busy snagging year. I also plan on getting to Anaheim and LA too, but those aren’t really road trips. Can’t wait till April.

I really want to do a Nationals game. I’ve never been anywhere but Fenway, and I’ve heard amazing things about the Nationals ballpark.
