Season Ticket Holder x 3
I am now a season ticket holder for three different MLB teams.
I’ve been a full 81 game season ticket holder since November 2006 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and will continue renewing my tickets as long as they have the early entrance perk for their season ticket holders.
Recently, I wrote about the possibility of becoming a partial season ticket holder for the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds as you may remember will welcome their season ticket holders into the park an extra 30 minutes early, just like at PNC Park and Camden Yards.
I decided that it would be well worth it to invest $81 for 13 games just for that perk alone.
Here’s an email I got from my Reds’ rep:![]()
I didn’t stop there.
As I compiled my master 2010 list of the games that I’d like to attend, I noticed that there were about 22 or so Cleveland Indians games listed at Progressive Field.
I started browsing the Indians’ site and decided that it would make sense to buy a 20 game plan. I chose the 20 game Flex plan and picked out 20 of the games that I planned on attending in 2010.
So, Western Pennsylvania may not be a great area to live to see winning baseball, but its a great place to see affordable baseball.
I second that, Matt. These prices are ridiculous. You definitely don’t get anything like those ticket prices in Philadelphia.

Dang. This makes me wish I lived near a small market team just itching to sell tickets. Good luck, Erik.

damn thts sick. I agree with matt and todd, NY sucks for tht reason. so lucky. but how do you get out for all the games if your a teacher? wht time does school end in pitt?
How in the world can you get a 20 game plan for $140? $7 a ticket, a game? Unbelievable. The 13 game Ozzie plans at New Comiskey still come in at around 400-700 each depending on what game you pick (more for the Yankees, Red Sox, bla bla bla). I feel like I’ve been raped and ripped off by the other clubs. Don’t even get me started on the asinine prices at Wrigley. Jesus.

At Anaheim Stadium, home of the Angels, for $142 you get the 9-game nose-bleed seating plan. And no, there’s no Yankees or Red Sox games. Then there’s the 20 game plan where you get to choose the 20 games you want out of a big list that includes the lower half of the AL Central, Devil Rays and Texas Rangers, and surprise! no Yankees or Red Sox games.
Matt & Todd -
I guess I’m lucky to leave near two small market teams that have great prices and consistently low crowds. The only thing is that I haven’t seen a winning season from my hometown Pirates since 1992.
Joe-
School lets out at 2:35, so I can leave soon after that. I usually am able to get to the gates before 4, so I can be one of the first ones in line and/or go stand by the river and wait for a ball to bounce on the outer concourse and towards the river. (Usually 1-2 balls exit PNC Park per BP) The Pirates begin hitting at 4:15 and the gates don’t open til 5. I usually don’t make many Cleveland games in April/May/September because of teaching. I wouldn’t get to Cleveland until after the gates opened.
Jeff-
The Indians 20 games for $140 is a steal – it even included all 4 Yankees games. The Pirates are even more affordable with a full season for $399 ($4.93/game). The five close teams to me are all awful: Pirates, Indians, Nationals, Orioles, and Reds. It makes for good ballhawking. I think the most affordable plan goes to the Braves – they offer a full season for $249 (or $3.07 per game), and they open their gates at 4:30.
Captain-
I guess smaller market teams include the ‘prime’ games because they need to give the fans as much incentive as possible to buy season tickets. Especially since most small market teams are perennially bad (except for the Twins&Brewers).
I live in LA and to get good seats 4 seats in toal to watch Dodgers play the NAts!!!! it cost us 300 bucks then i went to an angel yankee game (again 4 tickets) aroudn foul pole seats, 400 bucks one game!!! HOW DO YOU GET 20 GAMES FOR 140 BUCKS???? can i ask how much is it for seaons pirate tickets
YankeePunk,
Seats in left field (the bleachers) at PNC Park go for $599 for all 81 games. They are great seats and are right on top of the field. Tickets in foul territory past third base and first base (outfield box seats) are $999 for a full season.
I have the $399 full season plan, and am in the first row of the Upper Deck. I never sit there because usually the park is 30-50% full and there’s plenty of open seats in the lower level.
I also uploaded an image of Pirates season ticket prices in an update to the original blog entry.
Great, burn enough gas, parking fees, et al and you can see three crappy teams. Or you could stay at home and watch every MLB game on Dirct TV and MLB.com. I’ll take the latter.
Hey Eric…..
The cheapest season ticket the Padres have is $9 per game in the upper deck, BUT they also have $5 general admission tix to everygame. You have to by them in advance though and they’re not available as a season ticket. So, if you plan and buy ahead you could get a ticket for every game for a total of $405. Not too bad for SoCal. I don’t pay to park because I trolley into downtown, so I keep the expenses to a minimum. A lot of times my food will cost more than my ticket. If I snag a bunch of balls I’m ahead of the game. Ha ha. I think the Cincy and Cleveland mini plans are a good idea for you. I’m thinking about doing that for Anaheim. Well, take it easy.

Wow! that is impressive! A season ticket holder for the Pirates and two packages for two other teams! I have season tickets to the Dodgers and I go to a few road games. Last year I went to 10 games to San Diego, two a t Chicago, 3 at Phoenix and an 8 a Spring Training. There were also the World Baseball Classic games I attended at Dodger Stadium. We just love our Baseball!

Wow. The Indians 20 game plans are as cheap as the one for the Pirates. I should jump on that.
Thats what happens when you don’t win for 2 seasons straight and or how many the pirates are at. You basically have to give away tix at low, low prices. Nice blog!
