2010 Ballhawk League Changes
About a month ago, I asked Ballhawk League Members to share their ideas about six possible changes to the league. Click HERE for the original entry.
Here are the results:
1) The Playoffs WILL be included towards one’s total balls.
The Ballhawk League will be extended three rounds past week 26. Rather than going week to week in the playoffs, we will update the standings after the Division Series, Championship Series, and World Series. The All Star Game/Home Run Derby will NOT COUNT.
7 were in favor. 0 against.
2) The Ballhawk League will NOT be divided into two seperate divisions for Junior (under 18 years old) and Seniors (18+)
Close call here, but the ballhawk league standings will be organized as they were last year.
6 against dividing the league into Junior/Senior
5 in favor
1 doesn’t care.
3) A BHL Points Category will be added to the standings page.
Total Balls snagged and NOT Points will determine the Ballhawk League winner each week. Points will just be an extra category for ballhawks to compete in.
8 YES for a points category
2 NO for a points category
1 undecided
Possible scoring could be:
Hit ball: 5 points
Thrown ball: 3 points
Device ball: 1 point
Found ball: 1 point
Game
foul ball: 20 points (which would be ultimately 25 as 5 more points
would be added since the ball would also be entered as a hit ball in
the standings)
Game home run ball : 45 points (which would
ultimately be 50 as 5 more points would be added since the ball would
also be entered as a hit ball in the standings)
Let’s see how
this point system would work look when comparing the top 7 in the
ballhawk league last year. I fudged the stats by estimating found
balls, since they didn’t have to be reported last year (when they
counted as hit balls). I also guessed on HRs caught, since in ’09 they
were all just lumped into Game Balls.![]()
4) Only unassisted batted balls will count as game balls. (just like in 2009)
4 in favor of keeping the 2009 rules
2 in favor of counting toss ups as game balls
5) Found balls will get their own category.
6 in favor of found balls getting their own category
1 against
6) Competition Factor will be dropped for 2010.
Less math for ballhawks on Sunday nights.
5 in favor of dropping CF
1 against
1 doesn’t care
BHL members will start compiling their stats for week 1 starting Sunday April 4th (Red Sox/Yankees season opener).
An email clarifying the rules will be dispatched shortly to all members.
I’ll be on the lookout for it. Hope you haven’t seen the forecast for monday at PNC. It has me nervous.

That point system is pretty arbitrary, don’t you think? Oh right, any point system for ballhawks is inherently arbitrary. I forgot.
Hey, been following your site for a while for info on PNC Park. If I want to join the league, do I do it through the MyGameBalls site? Is it possible to wait and join after I actually start snagging? Could be a while before I get to a Pirates game this year.
Also, I noticed a few of the commemoratives you’ve snagged in the past year or so. Very cool, I thought you might be interested in our site: BigLeagueBaseballs.com. It has a photo gallery with all the commemoratives used throughout the years. If you snag any this year, I’d like to see if you could post photos in the forum? It’s very new but there are already a few members that are only interested in game-used commemoratives.
